The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is now seeking nominations for an award that will be presented to a local musician for their continued dedication and inspiration in music. This award will be presented in conjunction with DHSD at the Makkovik Jamboree.

The award is in honour of Makkovik's first local band, "The Bandits". Over the years, "The Bandits" have seen many talented musicians who have always played a big role in our community entertainment such as festivals, weddings, dances, and other community events.

This nominee should demonstrate knowledge, leadership, and pride in their music while inspiring others.

The Bandit Award came about from a suggestion submitted by Irene Winters to honor **The Bandits**. Jermaine Manning, who was the Town`s Community Economic Development Officer at the time, came up with thìs wonderful idea- The Bandit Award -to remember the legacy of past and present band members of the Bandits who have rocked many a Saturday nights at the ol Community Hall and sang in many concerts throughout the Bigland. The Bandits are an inspiration to up and coming young artist for many years and by watching them play, wanted to pick up a guitar or the drums, or be in a band. The Bandits are a part of Makkovik's musical history!
