Job Opportunties
The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is developing a file of applicants with skills in various fields. These may include but not limited to such positions as Carpenter, Labourer, Plumbing, Mechanical, Heavy Equipment, Welding, etc.

The purpose of developing this group of information is to actively ensure that residents of Makkovik have the greatest opportunity to gain employment with potential contractors.

Please note: this does not ensure employment. However, it will increase the opportunity to provide contractors with a list of qualified applicants located within the community.

If you would like your information entered into this database please fill out an Application for Employment and pass it into the Makkovik Inuit Community Government Office. All field must be completed or application will not be accepted.

Be sure to hand in your application as soon as possible as this year's construction season is fast approaching.

SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT
The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is encouraging all resident seeking employment to apply for any job opportunity available (including local fish plant, contractors, retailers, etc) in order to obtain enough hours to qualify for unemployment benefits each year.

Do not anticipate employment this fall under government sponsored employment initiatives such as the Seniors Assistant Project. Those who make every effort to obtain employment should not fall short of hours unless it's a last resort due to a condition or circumstances beyond their control. This does not mean refusing work due to preference, education, withdrawing a claim, or terminated for failure to follow company policy.

As a part of supporting local businesses, prior to the start of any employment initiative we will be contacting local businesses for references to see whether the list of applicants compiled took advantage of these employment opportunities at the beginning and throughout the summer. Should you abuse this opportunity, you may not be hired under any future employment initiative.

We wish everyone much success in seeking employment this season and enjoy your summer.
