Job Posting for Local Research Coordinator in Makkovik
Position: Local Research Coordinator (LRC), for the CULTURE-CONNECT! / ILIKKUSET-LINGANNET! Program
Project Background:
The CULTURE-CONNECT! / ILIKKUSET-LINGANNET! program is a new initiative in Rigolet, Makkovik, and Postville. It provides the opportunity for youth to work with adult role models to learn cultural skills, such as hunting, trapping, sewing, art, music, and food preparation. There will be 5 youth participants and 5 adult mentors in this pilot program. Each youth will spend approximately 5 weeks with each mentor, learning a variety of skills. The Local Research Coordinators will be the key organizers in each community for the project.

We are looking for an individual who is:
• Friendly and outgoing
• Reliable
• Likes to work with people, especially youth
• Good with organization and time management
• Independent, but likes working with a team
• Has basic computer skills
• Motivated
Previous experience working with research, cultural, or mentorship projects a real asset. Must be available on evenings and weekends, if required, but the majority of work will be during the day. Some travel throughout Nunatsiavut may also be required.
Work Duties:
• Work with project research team to coordinate research activities in the community
• Advertise the CULTURE-CONNECT! / ILIKKUSET-LINGANNET! program in the community
• Field questions and act as a project liaison to the community
• Recruit 5 youth to participate
• Recruit 5 adult mentors to participate
• Organize and keep track of supplies
• Assist youth and adult mentors and keep them organized
• Organize community information nights and open houses to explain the project
• Conduct some interviews
• Some project administration: mailing, faxing, emailing, phone meetings, photocopying, etc.
Time: 25 hours per week, from September 2013 to March 31, 2014 (hours variable depending on week, approximately 625 hours).
Salary: $15/hour
