SUPERVISOR OF OPERATIONS AND PUBLIC WORKS
INTERNAL/EXTERNAL COMPETITION
Status and Reporting Protocol
This is a full time permanent unionized supervisorial position that reports directly to the Chief Administrative Officer
Qualifications
The Supervisor must have a minimum high school graduation, must be a certified heavy equipment operator, and possess a valid driver's license with Class 3,5,8 and 9 endorsements. Individual must also be capable of being insured and maintaining insurance under the Town's vehicle and liability insurance policies Knowledge ( and Certification) in water testing and municipal water services, noting that the successful candidate will be required to complete the mandatory water and sewer certification program/examinations offered by the Dept of Environment, NL if he or she is not already certified. Knowledge of the installation and maintenance of municipal underground infrastructure is essential. Ability to oversee the workers and to assign work tasks to ensure the work is completed in an effective and efficient manner.
Primary Areas of Responsibility
The Supervisor of Operations and Public Works supervises the outside workforce and maintains responsibility for the ongoing maintenance and repairs of roads, playing fields, town facilities, trails and open spaces, tools, equipment, and underground infrastructure, and for other related duties and responsibilities related to outside operations and public works as outlined below.
Scope of Work
1. Supervision of Outside Work Force
2. Infrastructure and Maintenance
3. Expansion of Services for building and development
4. Records Management and Inventory Control
5. Health and Safety
6. Capitol Works, Roads, and Municipal Facilities
7. Complaint and Site Inspections
8. Town Beautification and Recreation Facilities
9. Adhering to the MICG Safety and Respectful Workplace Measures and Town's existing Operations and Employee policies and procedures. Ensuring that the worker also adheres to these measures and policies.
Salary and Benefits
The salaries and benefits are in accordance with the current NAPE Collective Agreement. The current base hourly rate is $ 27.91 plus $ 3.41 per hour for Northern Allowance, total of $ 31.32 per hour, ( noting that base salary is reduced by $1.00 during probationary period). Once successful completion of probationary period, the employee will be eligible for other employee benefits, including applicable leave, pension, insurance, in accordance with the current NAPE Collective Agreement. Any hours worked over the regular 40(forty) hour work week will be based on time ½ hourly rate. On-call is required on weekends and holidays on an employee rotation schedule for pump checks and chlorine samples and will be compensated in wages for a minimum of six(6) hours per day, based on overtime rate.
