COUNCILLOR SEATS
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
As per the IL2010-04 Inuit Community Government Elections Act, nominations of Candidates for the Election of Councillors shall be accepted between the hours of 9:00 am to 4:00 pm from:
SEPTEMBER 25TH, 2018 TO OCTOBER 01, 2018 AT TOWN OFFICE FOR THE FOLLOWING SEATS:
▪ Six(6) Councillor Seats( enrolled on the Voters A Roll) representing those residents who are "Inuit, Resident and their descendants".
▪ One(1) Councillor Seat ( enrolled on Voters B Roll) representing those residents who are "New ResidentS".
Successful Candidates shall run for a four year term and is entitled to a quarterly remuneration ,with the condition that meetings are regularly attended as scheduled( legitimate reasons accepted for absence).
A Nomination shall be:
a) Shall be in writing in the required form
b) Shall state the name and address of the Candidate
c) Shall be signed by the proposer and the seconder, both of whom shall be present together with the Candidate. The Candidate shall also sign the nomination form to signify his or acceptance. In order to be a proposer and seconder, he/she must be enrolled on the same Voter's roll of the Candidate he/she is nominating.
Note: If the Candidate is absent due to unforeseen circumstances, he/she can still be nominated The proposer must complete the required form and the Oath of Affirmation on the Candidate's behalf.
There is a $ 25.00 a nomination fee which must be paid upon date of nomination.

Returning Officer Date
Qualifications of Candidate:
a) Is eligible to be enrolled on the Voters A or Voters B Roll in an election in the Town of Makkovik in which he or she is nominated to serve as councillor.
b) Has been an ordinary resident in the Town of Makkovik since at least the day that is the sixtieth day preceding the date set for the General Election
c) Is a resident who is 19 years of age or older.
d) Not indebted to the Makkovik Inuit Community Government or the Nunatsiavut Government for any taxes, dues or fees( the Returning Officer may be required to confirm that there are no monies owed to MICG or NG)
e) Not otherwise disqualified to run as Candidate under the IL2010-04, Inuit Community Government Elections Act..
