Smoke Detectors, A Gift to Save a Life
Check your smoke detectors. (Install new batteries).
Check your electrical cords to insure it's not damaged. Insure they are ULC/CSA approved.
Do not overload circuits with electric decorations.
Keep your wood stove/furnace area free of clutter such as card board/wrapping paper.
Check your chimney. Make sure it is clean. Chimney sweeps are at the fire
hall.
Do not leave burning (lit) candles or any open flame unattended in your home.
If you have a natural tree insure it is well watered to avoid drying out.
Check needles on the tree daily by squeezing a branch. If needles fall off in significant amount your tree is drying up.
NOTE: Tree's draw water through the bark not the wood so insure the bark is in the water once in the stand.
Keep a fire extinguisher on hand at your home.
To Report a Fire call 923-2444, state your name and emergency clearly after the recorded message.
Your fire department wishes you a fire-safe Christmas Season. Before the festivities begin, test your smoke alarms and review your fire escape plan. Don't invite disaster to your holiday celebrations.
