FULL TIME POSITION- 35 HRS PER WEEK
COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is accepting applications for a Community Economic Development Officer for Makkovik. This annual funding for this position is made possible through Nunatsiavut Government Community Economic Development Fund. The Community Economic Development Officer is responsible for facilitating, promoting and ensuring community and economic development as well as the tourism industry in order to increase local employment and secure opportunities for economic and business, tourism development.
The Community Economic Development Officer (CEDO) will be responsible for:
►Conducting public consultations and hold meetings with Makkovik Inuit Government, Nunatsiavut, community groups, businesses and local artisans to development an Economic Development Work Plan.
► Implementing project outlined in the existing MICG Tourism Economic Development Work Plan, and compiling proposals to secure funding to implement these projects. identifying other economic development initiatives that includes vision, goals, champions, timelines, and objectives . Promote the community and culture by updating community profile, business and artisan directory, website; develop brochures and promotional material. Working with Nunatsiavut Tourism sector and local interests to compile a Tourism Strategic Plan for Makkovik
►Provide guidance and advice to community groups, businesses and local artisans on economic development opportunities. Participate in meetings and conferences as it relates to Community Economic Development and training as approved by Makkovik Inuit Community Government .Identify community training, workshops, and development requirements to take advantage of economic development opportunities.
► Attend any training available to successful candidate( if required) on proposal writing and business plans, computer skills to improve his or hers skills set for this position. Develop a good working relationship with Government Agencies/Funding Agencies, etc. Work closely with Nunatsiavut Departments on regional initiatives as approved by Makkovik Inuit Community Government.
Qualifications:
Graduation from a recognized program in business, commerce or related discipline however any candidate with equivalent experience in this field, or willing to partake in necessary training will be considered. Training will be offered to the successful candidate to acquire the skills of proposal writing, business plans, excel programs, etc which which may require traveling out of town. A knowledge of and/or experience in the field of Economic Development and understanding of the zonal board structure. Strong oral and written communication skills. Candidates must be able to work both independently and as a regional team.
Salary
Base hourly salary is $ 20.50 ( plus $ 4% Vacation pay ). A 4 month probation period will be in effect once the successful candidate is hired.
