Office Assistant

Status and Reporting Protocol:
This is a full time permanent unionized position which reports directly to the CAO. There is a probationary period required for new employees as outlined under the provisions of the current collective agreement with unionized employees.

Qualifications:
A minimum of high school graduation combined with an accredited program of studies in office administration. Proficiency in typing, knowledge of computers, and knowledge and understanding of basic accounting software is also required. Knowledge and/or certification and experience in municipal administration would be an obvious asset.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:
The Office Assistant is a front line position which responds directly to the public in person, by telephone, and electronically, and which is effectively the first line of contact by the professional staff of the town to greet the public and to respond to their requests for information or assistance. This individual must be knowledgeable about a wide variety of information relating to the town's programs and services, town regulations, and about the specific duties and responsibilities of other professional staff. It is important for the Office Assistant to be familiar with the various aspects of the town's operations, programs, services, as well as the professional staff, and to be able to provide information and assistance to the public as requested.

Scope of Work:
1. Front Line Reception
2. Accounts Receivable Support
3. Light Office Work, Typing, and Clerical Duties
4. Relief and Assistance to Other Professional Staff (including water testing)

As noted above, the priority will be to provide prompt and courteous front line service and information to the public. There will be an expectation to provide clerical support and relief to senior staff and other town employees to assist in the efficient and effective operation of the town office.

Salary and Duration of Work
$17.59 plus applicable benefits under Collective Agreement. An increase of $1.00 upon successful completion of probationary period.
