Makkovik Inuit Community Government is pleased to be named winner of the 2010 Tidy Towns Competition for the population category of 1-400. The Tidy Towns Program is sponsored by Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador who recognizes tidiness, natural beauty, and community involvement in Newfoundland and Labrador. This marks the first year that Makkovik has won this competition since competing each year for 10 years. However, Makkovik received special recognition in the categories of community involvement, running of drinking water supply and environmental awareness in the past. All of this would not have been possible without the cooperation of community residents, volunteers, and the Makkovik Recreation Department. We would like to thank everyone who participated last summer including the Junior Rangers, JCEM School Kindergarden Class, Public Works Department, White Elephant Museum, Torngat Fisheries, Drum Dancers, DHSD, Clinic, Big Land Grocery, Skipper Gil's, Adlavik Inn, Makkovik Fire Department, Radio Society, Green Team, and Makkovimiut Trust. Let's gear up for another year and impress the judges on their next visit to Makkovik in 2011. Winning this honor is one thing but keeping it is another.
