The Makkovik Inuit Community Government is proud to announce the winner of the Makkovik Youth Centre Contest.

The contest began in January to uncover a fresh new name based on feedback from the youth. The winner was chosen by the Community Government with the help of a very respectable panel of judges known for their support toward improving the quality of life of our youth.

The centre will contain a multipurpose room for meetings, workshops, sports and games.

In partnership with Torngat Arts & Crafts, the Makkovik Craft Centre has an inventory of jewellery and soapstone carvings available.

Items include:
 Soapstone Earrings
 Rings
 Broaches
 Necklaces
 Various soapstone carvings

Women in Science and Engineering, and the Government of NL are hosting WISE Futures 2012 Ambassadors Conference in Happy Valley-Goose Bay April 27-29, 2012. This all expenses paid conference is open to females in grade 10, 11, and 12 who are interested in gaining valuable leadership, teamwork, and professional skills, while having fun in an informal environment

Meeting at the Town Office on June 30, 2011 @ 1:00 pm please come out and join the Junior Rangers in cleaning the beach from Hebron to Indian Head. Removing shoreline litter helps create healthy waters for everyone, including the wildlife and communities that depend on them.

Walkers who show up 6 am every morning for a week will get their name put in for a draw on a return ticket from Makkovik to Goose Bay on Innu Mikun. Everyone gets a white garbage bag to pick up garbage on the route that we take.

This years clean up week is scheduled to begin June 27-July 1, 2011. Prizes will be awarded to homeowners agains for categories such as tidiest property, etc. Please come out and show your community pride by participating in this year's clean up week.
